Wednesday, 1:00 pm
The team has begun climbing and is now 120 meters above
C3. The winds have died down but the
snow is deep. Joao, who left from C2
earlier in the morning, is with them, and the two Sherpas from the Korean
women's team are following. The Russians
have stayed at C3.
Wednesday, 3:15 pm
Sergey from the Russian team comes to our Base Camp and
tells Chris Stensland that the Russian team has begun ascending to C4.
Stensland calls Chris with the news. Chris tells Stensland the going
has been
slow. Each of the climbers takes 20
steps and then another takes the lead.
He estimates they are going about 75 meters per hour.
Wednesday, 3:45 pm
Chris calls down to Base Camp: "We can't make it to 4 - go
over and tell the Russians to go back down. Over."
